Ramkrishna Vivekananda Mission(RVM) was established as a registered society on 25th October 1976 at the initiative of a band of young Sanyasis and Brahmacharis dedicated to serve suffering humanity irrespective of caste, creed, sex or religion. RVM began work on 1st January 1977 by opening its Welfare Home at Barrackpore with 20 desperately poor tribal children as free inmates.
Today RVM’s activities include 19 Welfare Homes with over 1000 inmates, 30 schools with nearly 8000 students, 4 charitable dispensaries, 2 hospitals, 5 Old people’s home and 6 Vocational Training-cum-Production Centres spread over several states of India.
The Government of India has conferred its National Award three times to the mission “in public recognition of the valuable services to the community in the field of Child Welfare”. RVM is the only institution to have been conferred this honor thrice.
